Josiane Childers

Josiane Childers was born in the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina and grew up in upstate New York. She was very driven to paint, draw and learn from a young age. Not until receiving excellent training and encouragement from her high school art instructor, Nicholas Todisco, did she begin to take it seriously.

Josiane continued her education in fine art with inspirational teachers from Onondaga Community College in Syracuse, NY and completed her Bachelor of Fine Art at Purchase College in Westchester County, NY. This also included a semester abroad in Amsterdam at the Academie voor Beeldende Vorming. Amsterdam was of course a magnificent setting to be thrown into in a young artist’s life and has an influential presence still with her today.

She now resides in Phoenix, Arizona with her artist boyfriend and three German Shepherds. The spacious sky and unique landscape of the local area have a continual influence on her work. Even though she paints mostly abstract styled paintings, the openness of the desert has an enlightening impact on her work. Other places she makes at least yearly trips to are Taos, San Diego, Chicago, Oregon and New York. The variety of landscapes always refreshes and inspires her but the expansive desert will continue its hold on her heart.

Artist Statement

"Every piece that I paint is an emotional journey through color. I am continuously inspired by the extraordinary world around me as well as the exciting possibilities of infinite color relationships. Every single color is beautiful and has a place. There is always motivation to paint and I am in love with the paint itself."
